Morgan Freeman to train Ben-Hur
Morgan Freeman is set to star in the latest adaptation of Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ, the 191th century novel by Lew Wallace.
Titled Ben-Hur, the religious epic has yet to cast the lead character, Judah Ben Hur, and his friend-turned-rival, Messala. Timur Bekmambetov is directing for MGM and Paramount, from a script by Keith R. Clarke and John Ridley.
Freeman will portray Sheik Ilderim, the man who teaches Ben Hur to become a champion-caliber chariot racer.
The classic novel has been adapted numerous times for the big and small screen, with the most well-known adaptation being the 1959 version, that starred Charlton Heston and won 11 oscars, including one for Hugh Griffith who played Ilderim.
